Global Waste and Pollution

ONLY A SELECT FEW HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO REVERSE IT

SAVING EARTH'S RESOURCES

Earth stewardship involves shaping trajectories of social-ecological change at local-to-global scales to enhance ecosystem resilience and human well-being. Over the next decade, society has a very narrow window of opportunity to radically redefine our relationship with the planet, and reduce risks of dangerous global changes that could otherwise seriously degrade Earth’s life-support systems.

LAND

  • The U.S. generates 5 lbs of trash per person per day. Highest globally.
  • Nearly every country will run out of landfill space by 2036.
  • Only 13% of trash is recycled globally. The U.S. recycles 30%.

AIR

  • Air pollution contributed to more than 11.65% of deaths globally.
  • Less than 1% of global land area has safe air pollution levels.
  • Air pollution’s economic cost  is $3.3 trillion (3.3% of world GDP)

WATER

  • Every year unsafe water sources cause more than 1.2 million deaths.
  • 80% of global wastewater is released into the environment untreated.
  • 8 million tons of plastic are released into the seas annually.
